Historic Lakefront Mansion – 9.85 acres – 774′ of Prime Lake frontage on Horseshoe Lake

This magnificent 9.85 acre estate includes the 6,000 square foot “Snowden House” and approximately 774′ of prime lake frontage on Horseshoe Lake!

THE PROPERTY: 9.85 acres – 774′ of prime water frontage – The Snowden Home

Definitely one of the most picturesque waterfront settings available on Horseshoe Lake. Over 12 contiguous acres with 774′ of prime lake frontage on the highest bank of the lake with the deepest water! You’ll enter the property via a private drive lined with 100 year old box woods and magnolia trees before arriving at the historic 6,000 sq. ft. plantation home. The acreage around the home is mostly open land with scattered mature magnolias and hardwoods and there is a older horse barn located near the entrance to the property.

The Snowden Home has been operating as a bed and breakfast and event venue since the late 1980′s and was a setting for the movie, “The Client”. It also offers a perfect setting for weddings, reunions, private dinners and local tours of the area. Most of the lake frontage has been improved with a rock seawall and the waters edge is lined with mature cypress trees. A new buyer could choose to continue operating the property as an event venue which generates a nice income stream or use at as your private family estate. The combination of majestic views in a plantation setting with direct access to the lake make the Snowden property a place to enjoy for a lifetime.

LOCATION: The property is located 30 minutes from Memphis, two hours east of Little Rock and 60 miles south of Jonesboro on beautiful Horseshoe Lake. Horseshoe Lake is a 2,362-acre lake located six miles east of the town of Hughes in Crittenden County, Arkansas.       Horseshoe Lake was once part of the mighty Mississippi River.

THE HOME: Built in 1919, the Snowden House is the oldest home on Horseshoe Lake and is a colonial style home as one would find along the river in Louisiana of the great plantations of antebellum years. The home features a two story entrance hall with columns on the Greek Revival portico porch, the front door flanked by carriage lamps of brass and German silver an intricately crystal chandelier in the entrance hall over marble floors, a gilded pier mirror and marble bench, beautifully detailed wood work with a sweeping staircase that leads up to the second floor where all of the main living rooms are. The formal living and dining rooms all feature sweeping views of the lake with beautiful cypress trees that line the lake bank. The best view from the home is from the 2nd floor screened porch that is accessed through the three sets of French doors from the formal living area! In the living room is a Carrera marble fireplace with a three paneled gilded mirror, twelve foot high ceilings and signature cove lighting. Many of the antique fixtures came from the Snowden’s Memphis  home at Ashlar Hall in Memphis.
